PFM Obsession: Jemima Kirke

I followed the entire first season of HBO's Girls and was struck by Jessa's sharp wit and free-spirited attitude...but as each episode flew by I found myself completely swooning over her vintage-chic wardrobe. I love finding out that in real-life, Jemima Kirke's personal style inspired her bohemian character's look.

Her signature style revolves around mermaid hairdos, drapey kimonos, floral prints, felt hats, bold peep-toes, and matte lips...with a bit of velvet, feathers, and leather mixed in. I did a little research and was thrilled to realize that Jessa's outfits are actually a combination of vintage pieces and Jemima's own wardrobe. This girl blends effortless, eclectic, and feminine into one charming package...and her lovely British accent is perfection. It can't hurt that Jemima's mom owns a vintage store in NYC called Geminola...ooh I feel a major shopping trip coming up!

Costume designer Jenn Rogien and creator Lena Dunham take the outfit reins for all four girls on the show and I admire that they stay true to the situation surrounding each character. I'm really looking forward next season to see more of Jessa's inspiring looks. You might have heard the rumor that this series is dubbed the new Sex & the City...but the fashion is definitely much more attainable. We are talking Zara, H&M, J.Crew, Anthro, and the Brooklyn Flea...not Manolo Blahnik, Dior, Lanvin, and Ralph Lauren.

Check out Jemima's website...in addition to being an actor, a mother (and my latest style icon!) she is also an artist who creates beautiful paintings. If you are obsessing along with me, here are some pieces to get you started on re-creating her look for the fall season. xoxo Becca

Daily Outfit: Garden Party in the Rain

This gloomy day became a bit brighter thanks to my floral gams! Last seen here, these jeans are officially on heavy wardrobe rotation. Oooh, can I tell you a little story about the jacket that almost wasn't? Before I could overpay mindlessly on eBay in an attempt to score this sold-out jacket, Zara ended up restocking it online. Yay! I've worn it countless times since it showed up at my doorstep. I can't resist safari styling with leather sleeves...meanwhile this piece has replaced my classic trench in rain or shine! Spring staples are something to get excited about, don't you think?

Daily Outfit: Kooky Floral

Oh happy day! That was my thought on the way to work in this bright outfit. Not because I was especially excited for the work day, but because that's just the kind of effect that $15 floral trousers can have on me. So happy with this purchase (talked about here). I love the tropical vibe of these pants, and I can definitely see them being a staple all the way through summer. They will be on weekend rotation with a drapey tee and wedge sandals. During the week I'm thinking peachy button-down and black blazer for starters. Anyway, for this particular look I went a little kooky with color...a burst of chinese red on top and a pop of lime green at the ears. Had to treat the trousers right! Did any of you ladies purchase these pants too...how are you styling them?

Hope you enjoy the weekend!

PFM Obsession: Bag Watcher or Bag Stalker - Zara Studded Shopper

Zara's Studded Shopper
oooo i just love those gold studs!!

i am such a sucker for butter soft leather and stud detailing on a bag.  it never fails; if i see a bag that meets this criteria, i am instantly all over it.  the Zara Studded Tote is no exception.   i spotted this little number while roaming in the mall and it was love at first site.  i convinced myself that the way i love to pack stuff into my bags would ultimately end badly for this tote.  ... but it is too late - the obsession is now full blown.  what makes it worse is i originally spotted it in this gorg olive-y color in store and was smitten.  when i instantly searched for it online, i see that they also have it in black *gasp* ... a black bag with bright gold studding???!!! oh no, it is going to be hard to keep myself convinced that i don't need this bag in my life!

Daily Outfit: Orange You Glad...Spring is in the Air?

Yes, the title of this post is a little bit cliched. I prefer the classic punchline "I didn't say banana." I think of this silly knock-knock joke anytime I wear orange, which isn't too often (whew, right?) But why save the bright colors for when warm weather arrives? We know that spring style is all about color (cue the neon!) and I just can't wait. A burst of bright orange was exactly what I needed to punch up my look. I love how the different prints and tones of brown paired with tangerine and khaki made for such freshness! Finished off with the classic denim jacket.

This was a weirdly warm day and I was so happy to finally not be shivering while taking pics in the setting sun. Higher temps to come, as tomorrow might actually hit 60 here...yay!

Daily Outfit: Sequins Make Everything Better

I knew after scoping out these tweed shorts for a post of Ask the PFMs, they would eventually be mine. Especially when they hit the sale section.

I wasn't feeling too well but what got me out of bed this particular day was the thrill of wearing something sparkly. As I put together my outfit, I felt better and better. Good even. Until about 30 minutes of being at work and then I realized- nope I was still sick. Being the trooper that I am, we took our pics and had a good laugh realizing how perfectly my nails matched my shirt. Even under the weather, this girl is still on her fashion game. Ha!

Daily Outfit: Peek-a-boo Shine

judging by the background, you would think that it was 8pm when i took these pics!  well, it's only after 4pm but you sure couldn't tell.  the early winter darkness is the one thing that depresses me more than the bitter cold.  then when it's cold AND dark, who wants to do anything other than curl up under the covers!!

my only solace is being able to bring my own light to the day.  there's nothing like a subtle pop of pink to brighten up a grey palette.  i love this shirt because not only does it add brightness, it also has these cool cut-outs in the back.  this super sexy feature, great for a night out, can easily be made office ready by adding a complimentary blazer.   just for fun, i put on my sequin tube top so that i could also have some peek-a-boo bling!  a girl has to have her bling!! lol

Daily Outfit: Wild, Wild Wine

Can leopard be considered a neutral? I say yes...definitely. That's what hit me when I purchased this blouse at one of my fave stores, Milk & Honey. The pattern is muted just enough to be bold without being offensive, and I love the camel tones that dominate. It livens up what could have been an otherwise boring outfit. Not that I would have let that happen! Leopard+deep wine+taupe+black= a lovely wintry palette. What's your idea of a purrrrrrrrrrrr-fect animal-print color combo that you are going to debut in 2012? Oooh, have I mentioned that I'm also loving zebra+cobalt+black+gold?

Hope you all are having a fantastic week so far and starting the new year off fresh!

Daily Outfit: Bringing Classic To Friday

Brrrrrr we are now experiencing winter...complete with chilly afternoons when the wind is whipping (can you tell?!) and your fingers are stinging just a bit. On days like these I reach for the classic combo of jeans and a cable knit sweater. Classic doesn't mean boring. And Fridays don't have to mean casual. This sweater is as comfy as a sweatshirt, and the thing I like most about it is that you can layer underneath and completely change the look of it while keeping warm. A classic stripe never goes out of style, so pop on a nautical long sleeve tee and you have a look that's effortlessly chic. Friday just got a little fancier with the addition of some rolled high-waist skinny jeans and orange-red lipstick...beauty is in the details!

I hope everyone had a relaxing week and you are ready to celebrate tonight! Thanks so much to our lovely supporters that have stuck around, giving love since the very beginning (back in the pre-blog years.) And....a huge thank you to our loyal readers for your love and amazing comments. We are looking forward to a fantastic 2012 full of joy, inspiration, and sparkle.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
with love, MavenFresh

Daily Outfit: Navajo Love

Seems like everyone is on vacation during the holidays...so let's pretend that I am going away to a remote mountain location where I can unwind, play around in some snow, and sit by a big warm fireplace drinking a hot toddy wrapped up in this scarf/blanket. If I was taking said vacation (I said if!) I would definitely be packing this cozy outfit. I pulled out this super sweet 1970s navajo cardigan sweater for a look that's a little bit southwestern and slightly bohemian. I'm all about mixing denim, fringe, and cozy layers. My sweater almost feels like a blanket with it's enormous hood and kimono sleeves, and I love the desert sunset color palette. I may just continue this urban-cowgirl-boho frontier-esque trend through the winter...already picturing this  cardigan with some denim cutoff shorts, thick-knit tights, lace-up boots, a plaid shirt, and a fur hat.

PS Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend... these are some things that made me happy:
Finding the perfect recipe organizer for my mom; she's the most amazing cook ever who has always kept all recipes in her head/  Happy to score the last box of these limited edition red fishnet nail polish strips at Duane Reade. Yep I realize these were originally released for Halloween but who doesn't want a dose of bright poppy during the holidays/  First Christmas in our new house/ First fire in our fireplace (next time we will fully open the flue, haha oops)/ Anthropologie is still having an extra 50% off sale items/  Lots of quality time with family and friends!

Daily Outfit: A Jewel Tone Combo

Why do I find myself wanting to show more leg as the temperature drops down? Maybe because subconsciously I'm aware of that brief window we have in NY before it gets real cold and then tights will be totally out of the question (unless they are being worn under jeans for extra warmth!) So I'll just be rocking my cord shorts to death until that time comes.

One of my favorite winter fashion trends...making a statement in rich jewel tone hues. I love mixing different textures and saturated colors. If anything, dreary days will make the deep berry reds, bright mustard yellows, and bold emerald greens even more necessary. My shorts inspired me to work in other jewel tone pieces. Citrine tights...my collection just keeps growing!

Sophisticated jewel tones also made their way into nail trends...check out this DIY that combines three rich colors of polish and one metallic polish to create a unique look for any holiday party.

PS Can't stop wearing these ankle boots. I just love 'em. And like Sesheta said, outdoor photo shoots rule.
