Daily Outfit: Sparkly Self

Stepping on the heels of my last post...I just had to dress myself in sequins to match the upbeat sparkly mood I've been in lately. Sparkles in the daytime? Yes...do it...it's fun! I love to mix up a girly piece like this drapey sequin top with a pair of boyfriend jeans for contrast. The oxford flats are perfect for running around and as a bonus they bring a pop of bright color into the outfit. Add a blazer for the office and then transition this look easily into evening with a pair of pumps or some seriously high heeled sandals. Happy Monday everyone! xoxo Becca

Mani Pedi: Purplishious Sparkle

my #nailswag continues with this fun color combo.  if you didn't know, purple is actually my official favorite color.  it would make perfect sense that i have nail polishes in just about any shade of purple you could imagine.  for this mani, i only used three different shades - Essie Lilacism (index finger), Color Club Disco Dress (middle finger) and Color Club Pucci licious and used OPI Nicole Rainbow in S-Kylie as my accent.  since i don't have the time and patience to do super fancy designs, this was a cool and easy way to have color fun.  luv it!!!!  i will definitely do this combo again and even try it out with other colors too!

PFMs Do It Better: DIY Dipped in Gold Mani

we have been having tons of fun changing up and experimenting with our manis recently.  after going to my cousin's baby shower, i got to see my other "little" cousin's (she's not really little; she towers over me lol) nails.  she is a budding manicurist but the kind that will do over-the-top designs on each nail.  well, i'm not that fancy nor do have the time it requires to do the job but i have been inspired.  below you will find my easy solution to amping up "plain" nail color (yes, even one shade on your nails is plain nowadays) without sacrificing tons of time.  of course, you can use any nail color you'd like but here's what you'll need to make it look like mine

What you will need:

Base coat of your choice (i use Sally Hansen Hard as Nails)
Top Coat of your choice (i like Essie Chip Free Topcoat)
Nail Color - i chose Color Club Twiggie
Sparkle polish - like this Milani Gold
Time you will need: Approx. 30-35 min
  1. Apply your base coat. Wait 5 min.
  2. Apply first coat of your color or,  in this case, Twiggie. Wait 5 min.
  3. Apply your second coat of color and wait another 5 min.
  4. At the tips of your nails, apply the sparkle polish at the tips of your nails.  Apply so that the glitter is even and covers about a third of your nail. Wait 10 minutes to be sure it's dry.
  5. Apply your top coat. Wait 5-10 min.
that's it!  just like that you have some fun nails!!  i can't wait to try this with other colors and with different color glitter polish!  happy mani and happy friday! xo

Mani Pedi: Rainbow In The S-Kylie

Is it normal to have this much fun painting your nails?

With one coat: ooh look at all the colors...so sparkly. Must add another layer .

After two coats: I love the varying sizes of glitter...it's like shimmery confetti. Now my nails look more opaque. Uh-oh I want more.

Yep...three coats: I am in control of this chunky glitter addiction. Really I am.

Finished (stopped myself) with a coat of clear. Whew, that was intense.

I actually purchased this bottle of nail polish based on looks alone; it was "want-at-first-sight" without even noticing that it was a part of the popular Kardashian line for Nicole by OPI. My nails were looking so hot that I found myself browsing through the collection again today just to see what other options are out there. But no other shade drew me in like this one did!

PS Can't wait to put the "pedi" back into our Mani Pedi posts!

Mani Pedi: With Sprinkles On Top

Look- no Sally Hansen Salon Effects! Haha you know by now that we're devoted to them, but even a dedicated fan has to switch it up once in a while.

I was immediately loving Essie's Go Overboard  so it was only a matter of time before I bought a bottle for a bit of at-home experimentation. It really is what they say..."a limitless sea blue" with a hint of deep peacock; perfect to satisfy my color craving as we enter into Spring. After waiting for my nails to dry completely with two coats of Go Overboard, I wanted to add some nail jewelry. Sally Hansen Snappy Sprinkles did the trick. It has a clear base with tiny flakes of pink, green, gold, and blue iridescent glitter. Applied only to my ring fingers, it was super easy to get a nonchalant helping of glitter. The polish can be moved around if needed although one coat dries pretty quickly. The lovely blue base color brought out the variations in the glitter more attractively than I imagined. Add a clear topcoat, and you're good to go. Cheers to a simple twist on a basic mani!

Mani Pedi: Sally Hansen Lust-rous

Ladies, I think this is my current fave...Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Lust-rous. The black background was a perfect complement to the bold colors that I'm into (note my electric blue jeans.) And the silver 'n gold sparkles are just so whimsical. Are they chunks of glitter? Are they nail polish dots? All I know is- they shimmered in the light and I was wishing this mani lasted longer than 8 days!

Daily Outfit: Sequins Make Everything Better

I knew after scoping out these tweed shorts for a post of Ask the PFMs, they would eventually be mine. Especially when they hit the sale section.

I wasn't feeling too well but what got me out of bed this particular day was the thrill of wearing something sparkly. As I put together my outfit, I felt better and better. Good even. Until about 30 minutes of being at work and then I realized- nope I was still sick. Being the trooper that I am, we took our pics and had a good laugh realizing how perfectly my nails matched my shirt. Even under the weather, this girl is still on her fashion game. Ha!

Daily Outfit: All Night Vintage Sparkle

I'm pretty sure I let out a squeal of joy when I first saw this vintage Pierre Cardin sweater. It's gold and sparkly. It's an item you want to create your outfit around. And it also happened to be the star of my back-up outfit for NYE. Originally I had a dress in mind, but after trying said dress on again (the night before, you know how that goes!) I was underwhelmed. Luckily, my lifesaver Pierre was there to give me that extra zing needed to start the New Year off right. It ain't always easy to achieve glam and comfortable, but my new dark denim skinnies helped me nail it! I added a little more drama with leopard booties, old-school hammered gold earrings, chunky bracelets, and some big hair... and poof...all ready to go out to dinner and celebrate with a close group of friends and family. Can't believe that was already a week ago today!

PS For those of you just itching to vary your relationship with the curling iron, I totally recommend trying the Hot Tools Deep Waver. Very easy to use and I love the crimped wavy results that will last for days if you let 'em. It's big frizz done just right.

Daily Outfit: Shoes That Sparkle

About 10 years ago I went through a brief phase of compulsively purchasing anything that sparkled. Large rhinestone accents on a tank top? Must have. Glitter eyeshadow...yes please. Sequins sequins and more sequins- sure. You get the idea. And now I still love me some sparkle, but my editing skills have greatly improved.

I could not resist these vintage-inspired shoes. I already have a soft spot for mary janes, but what really sold me was the sparkly gold crackle finish....ah the more gold the better. The best part is the versatility of these shoes. I've worn them with a peplum strapless dress to a wedding, but now I wanted an everyday look that felt casual, yet chic. I love how the shoes dress up my jeans, worn here with a crisp white tie-neck top and a tweed blazer. I held back from accessorizing with a sequined headband, but instead brought in some sparkle with glam gold lasercut earrings. It's all about harmony!

Daily Outfit: Fall Prelude

I gotta say that there is something about the recent drop in temperature that makes me a little bit giddy. Overall I am a warm-weather girl who likes to be borderline sweaty hot. But take note... I do enjoy the transition into fall, only when it creeps in slowly and gently. And then you get to sip warm cappuccinos, eat as much hot soup as you want, and wear clog booties. Yesterday was in the 60s; totally not necessary to wear tights, but I was feelin it! My booties were a coveted online purchase from back in January- I scored them on sale from Madewell. I've worn them with everything from maxi skirts to leggings to jeans. Staple items like that are so much fun.

The change in season has me thinking about a getting a fresh new haircut...and these 3 places in the city look fab. Being that my stylist is out on maternity leave I might just try someplace new and splurge! Hmmm....

Daily Outfit: Sequins and Stripes

This outfit just kinda came together harmoniously piece by piece, starting with the hat. I cherish this vintage sequined cap, for a few reasons. One is that it's just so darn super stylish and makes me feel instantly glam. Two is that it was handmade by my grandmother years and years ago (maybe even the 1930s), which just goes to show that fashion sense & creativity run in my family- yay haha! And those shimmery paillettes... swoon! I was inspired to go with a preppy chic vibe and decided to pull out this striped tunic tee, and pair it my Level 99 khaki skinnies, and my bow-embellished flats. They added the perfect feminine touch to contrast with the toughness of the denim vest. I also just love to layer- hello fall! This completes the first of many looks for this season...what's your favorite piece for the fall?

Daily Outfit: Nude Glow

Hello Friday! It's been a jam-packed work week and I can't wait to catch up with close girlfriends for a relaxing dinner tonight. And some vino!

And now on to my outfit- I've searching for a while for a nude color floaty chiffony skirt to take me from end of summer through winter. Yup I saw all the versions over at American Apparel, but they just didn't do it for me. I almost caved in and bought (a really expensive) one from Anthro, but my wallet and conscience were telling me to run the other way. Good things come to those who wait! I recently found this purty skirt in Macys on sale for $25. After throwing down my trusty store credit, it was free. YAY! I had the urge to kick and twirl in this outfit, especially when the little silver studs on my top were shimmering in the light. I put my hair into a high ballerina bun topped with my sparkly Vintage Applique headband. It has a little touch of peach-nude in it to compliment the skirt. Did I mention I like glittery things?
