Gripe Session: Where is Fashion going and who's gonna teach the little girls
I happened to watch a lot of videos tonite as I worked into the wee hours of the morning. It struck me that the female singers that are quote, unquote "running it" are all rocking less than nothing and gyrating themselves around like they are hot and bothered. What does this have to do with sex? Well, everything, thanks to how society has forced women to literally sell themselves to do well. So, if sex sells, aren't we directly telling our little girls that that is the only way they can be on TV? Thank goodness for a Michelle Obama but who are the little ones really idolizing - more along the lines of a Rhianna and a Beyonce... This is just another reminder why we have to monitor how much media we expose these young minds to and to constantly remind them of the true price of fame; they should expect more from life and not sell themselves so cheaply... - sesheta

PFM obsession: Purple Leather
My obsession of the moment is purple leather. I am definitely a leather girl, all around - despite being vegan. There is something about seeing accessories in this shade that floats my boat. That leads me to think more about the color purple and what it is that makes me drawn to it. It’s my favorite color, though, most days I’ll say the rainbow is my favorite color, rather than choose just one. Purple and I go way back; when I was younger, if someone asked what my favorite color was, I would always say purple. My mom says I get it from her (which now I’m more inclined to believe is right :). Purple makes me think of royalty and splendor. That leads me back to loving Prince and the Revolution – I got that from her too.
Prince is/was all about purple. I was 8 at the time that Purple Rain – both the movie and the soundtrack – were the hottest things to hit the streets; I was his new convert. I wanted to be Apollonia.
With style trends leaning more on getting things from past fashion decades, the resurgence of the 80’s style is making me nostalgic. Having the perfect purple leather accessories may just help. Here are some items inspired by the rock/punk style of the decade that catch my eye…
