Spiritual PFM: Little Reminders

it could have been really easy to slip into a bad mood because of the rain on my birthday (especially because that is not what the weather said yesterday, smh).  in fact, i was already on my way to that state when, one of my good friends stopped me in my tracks by saying, "you bring the sunshine, birthday girl!"  i was starting to commit to the funk but her little reminder helped to bring me back to seeing the lighter side, my silver lining.  as i sat and watched the rain subside and then witnessed the sky becoming brighter and lighter, i claimed it; i bring the sunshine!!  in one instant, my mood was lifted.  it really can be that simple - to choose to be one way or another, happy or funky.  i chose happy and i was reminded that i should be coming from a place of gratitude today and always.  ... so here goes:

Give thanks and praise for those little reminders
and for those beautiful beings that remind you.
give thanks for sunshine and rain, rainbows and clouds;
give thanks for all things sparkly, blingy, glittery, shiny; :)
give thanks for my family - blood and adopted;
give thanks for yarn, beads, crystals;
give thanks for color;
give thanks for life, for the blessing of another day of breath
and the promise of a new year.
ashe!

A Day in the Life: Rain, Rain Cleanse Away

the calm after the storm

in the few days of summer we have, the last thing i want is for there to be rain. ...especially rain of the magnitude we had this morning in ny.  it forces you to rearrange your outfit to be waterproof or, even worse, you get caught unprepared in the downpour.  public transportation runs late; there's traffic everywhere.  either way, it sometimes ruins the day.  ...but then, when i take a second to step back from all the little inconveniences that it causes, it's hard to ignore the healing properties that rain has for the earth as well as for us.  it cleanses away the dirt and grime.  it cools down the heat and dispels humidity. it helps flowers to grow and gives water to the animals.  it refills our reservoirs, lakes and streams.    there are many people praying for rain for all these very reasons...

...so today, instead of being annoyed by the wet weather, i am going to be thankful.  thankful for the cleansing and calm it brings.  ...but i sure hope it's bright, warm and sunny tomorrow!! lol :)

PFMs Do It Better: Fighting Frizz!

Do you fear frizz and bad hair days? Are you tired of the rainy humid weather that we've been having for the past two weeks? Ladies (and gents) you are not alone...I give you two solutions for fighting frizz: my savior and my go-to.

Lately I've been getting well acquainted with Oribe Impermeable Anti-Humidity Spray. I discovered this stuff during my trip to the Whittemore House Salon. The stylists are big fans of this line over there, and now I'm addicted too! This spray is perfect for keeping my fringe under control- a major plus for us gals with bangs. So far I've put a few different hairstyles to the test (loose natural waves, messy side bun, and a deep side sweep with flat iron) that ended up staying relatively frizz-free and not at all greasy. Yay! I highly recommend it although a bit pricey. You won't really be using this every day,  just as your savior from heat and humidity...boy do I see a bunch of those days in our near future.

When in doubt this spring and summer, grab a silk scarf and tie it around your head into a bow or wrap it turban-style. A bright color and pretty print will step up your outfit and let you embrace any unsightly frizz. Simple as that. My go-to collection of vintage silk scarves keeps growing every year. But I don't have a polka dot version just yet...!!!

So what do you use for frizz protection?

Daily Outfit: Lemon Lime

wellies are the best!!

although it was a particularly dreary and wet day, you wouldn't be able to tell by my super sunny outfit lol.  i really love the color combo; shading is just sooo cool!! i can't say what prompted me to put this on but, subconsciously, it must have been because i was going to battle torrential rain pour on my way to work.  never fear - that's what an awesome pair of wellies are for!! i can't help but feel invincible as i step in - not around - puddles!  i'm just like my youngest, who always asks me if it's ok to jump in the puddles.  (if you haven't tried it, you must!)  ...so i guess with my internal sunshine going and my invincible rain boots, it didn't matter what was going on outside; i was bright and dry! :)
