Daily Outfit: Hothouse Weakness

Being the avid Anthropologie shopper that I am, certain products just seem to stick with me. I'm talking years after they are no longer available. I have a weakness for their colorful bedding...specifically several versions of a cotton quilt named Hothouse that I mulled over endlessly, but never actually made it home with one. They were vibrant and colorful with a patchwork mix of bold flowers and tiled prints...totally swoon-worthy. Now here I am looking over these photos taken last week on a hot day near a brightly colored flowerbed; I'm dressed in a tomato red/peony pink ensemble with diamond-print shorts and flower in hair...makes sense that the Hothouse collection immediately comes to mind. Ooh I can't help but think that I missed the boat on those Anthro quilts. Nah, there's always a next time.

PFM Obsession: Outdoor Living

Can you tell what's been on my mind lately? It might have something to do with this gorgeous weather we are having...or it could be that the top item on our Outdoor To-Do List has finally become reality; we are currently landscaping the front of the house. Ourselves, ha (and it's been mostly physical labor right now...my poor husband.) Our goal is to have a blank slate for a fresh start, and I couldn't be more excited. Of course before we know it, this will also turn into "let's update the front porch" talked about here. Makes sense, as it really is an extension of our indoor living space where we can eat 'n drink, lounge, and entertain. And then, what I'm dying to do is make our small backyard into more of an outdoor room. It's all about creativity and inspiration. There's never a shortage of visual goodness on the net.

If you have any links or ideas for landscaping with a rock garden, send them my way. Now get outside and have a wonderful Friday!

Daily Outfit: I Saw Red

Are we sick of hearing about "pops of color" yet? I tried to think of another phrase, but nothing really covers it like that one...let's go with "color burst" for today. After lots of searching, I found the perfect go-to top for a color burst this Spring. Besides looking at the classically chic Equipment blouses (but yes- they are pricey) it wasn't easy for me to find an affordable loose-fit silk blouse that met my criteria; I'm curvy and I love button-down blousy tops, but they don't always flatter my shape. There can be issues with pulling or gaping to consider, and I want to achieve that drapey shape without the blouse overwhelming me. The Blythe Blouse is perfection in bright red, and now I want one in every color...especially the neon versions!

This look is more "business" than what I usually go for, but I made it my own with a couple of  unexpected accents- my leopard booties, a full top-knot, and an oversized bloom.

I have a couple of tips when styling a this type of blouse...if you are petite and curvy like me, the structured blazer is a key piece. It will tame the drapey fit, ensuring that it doesn't engulf your frame and make you look bigger than you are. Also try tucking a loose blouse into fitted high-rise jeans or a pencil skirt. Totally flattering!

Daily Outfit: Lemon Lime

wellies are the best!!

although it was a particularly dreary and wet day, you wouldn't be able to tell by my super sunny outfit lol.  i really love the color combo; shading is just sooo cool!! i can't say what prompted me to put this on but, subconsciously, it must have been because i was going to battle torrential rain pour on my way to work.  never fear - that's what an awesome pair of wellies are for!! i can't help but feel invincible as i step in - not around - puddles!  i'm just like my youngest, who always asks me if it's ok to jump in the puddles.  (if you haven't tried it, you must!)  ...so i guess with my internal sunshine going and my invincible rain boots, it didn't matter what was going on outside; i was bright and dry! :)

Daily Outfit: Fringe Benefits

i had fun making my fringe shimmy lol

the look sans denim jacket

this vintage Lord and Taylor beaded belt was the perfect accent to add some bling!

can you tell that i adore my moccasin boots?  my goal during this shoot was to demonstrate the movement of the fringe.  this explains my twists and jumps! lol, it was hard to choose what pics to share!  i am such a tribal girl at heart; you can see it in my styling as well as in my designs.  these boots are a perfect way to add some native chic to an otherwise plain jane outfit.  (well, that is if u can call lemon yellow and chartreuse plain jane! lol). the shading of colors on my Crochet Cabbage Bloom flower just floats my boat!  i loved the excuse to  dress down this vintage beaded belt– a super find at a thrift store in Houston.  like Becca, i added denim - a retro take on the moto jacket- to my look to keep it a nice blend of styles. (i don’t like being categorized  - i can be classic, boho, edgy and comfortable - all in one look!) i chose to keep it simple when it came to the earrings – just a drop of pineapple!  i think i just found my tried and true outfit!
