PFMs on the Town: Saturday Night Lights

Sarah Brodsky...amazing!
Minerva Lions in action

That's me with the chocolate boots!
The weekend plan was to continue celebrating birthdays with my brother (turning the big 3-0) and some other lucky fellow Sagittarians on Saturday night. This meant a sweet low-key Friday night on the couch cuddled up with my man, our little kitty Stewie, and a soon-to-be-finished crocheted hoodie that I was excited to give as a gift. Do you know how challenging it is to be working with yarn around around a slightly crazy cat? Well it ain't easy but he's cute so I let it go.

My rock star bro always does it up right and this time was no exception! We headed to Brooklyn with friends for a delicious dinner at the Oak Wine Bar and then on to Big Sky Works. This definitely was the place to be if you wanted to catch a party that combined killer bands with amazing aerial acts, a DJ, and a light show. The Minerva Lions were especially fantastic (not that I'm biased, but hey I am related to the lead singer.) Hope you all had a splendid weekend. And look- here we are already at Wednesday...yay!
PS Since I really didn't get any detailed outfit photos worthy of posting, here's a re-creation...laid out on my bed. I wore this Saturday night and loved it so much that I wanted to give you a feel for the concept of the look. Sparkly sequins, faded black skinny jeans, and chocolate knee-high boots topped off with a fitted blazer. The finale was our latest earring creation- the Peacock Fan Fares with chain, sparkle and rich peacock colors that really popped against my hair and outfit. Olive, charcoal, and chocolate...loving it!

Daily Outfit: Heavy Metal

i just love chunky jewelry!!

there used to be a time that i would never mix metals.   i am still very conscious of when i do it.  if i have gold studs on my belt, that dictates that my jewelry should all be gold and if the buckles on my shoes are silver, then my other accessories should also be in the silver family.   Crazy? ok, maybe just a little lol but we can't help some of our little idiosyncrasies (notice that the word crazy is kind of in the word idiosyncrasies lol).  as i was saying, there was i time that i would never mix metals BUT, i have given that up loooong ago.  the way i accessorized this outfit is proof!  just look at all the different metals that i have on!  though i am not totally hindered by what metal i have on, i am definitely mindful of making the mix subtle.  it works because it's all spread out so you can't really tell.  everything just flows without competing.  my necklace is definitely the focal point of the outfit (and so is my hot pink tank) with the other metals accessories as accents.  i especially have an affinity for chunky pieces; chunky jewelry makes me feel so rock goddess... not really sure why but, then again, who cares why!!   the goal is to put together a memorable outfit with ease and i think that mission is complete!

Daily Outfit: Mee-Yowww

Fair warning- these photos were taken in an attempt to find ourselves a proper indoor shoot option during cold days. Apparently this is not the best location, but bear with us!

My hubby got me these fantastic leopard wedge booties for my birthday and I couldn't wait to debut them. Not gonna lie, I had picked them out previously...but it was definitely exciting to unwrap these beauties and put 'em on! I felt they deserved full attention, thus shorts and tights were the way to go. Kept the rest of the look simple and classy with shades of black and grey to contrast against the pop of pattern in the boots. A chunky vintage necklace was the final touch.

A co-worker came into my office, saw me sitting behind my desk and told me that I looked very business-like. I told her thanks, but she couldn't see that the party was on the bottom. I guess she really didn't know what that meant until I got up to leave my desk. Then she was smiling saying "you weren't kidding!" Ahhhh...I love bringing a little glam to the workday.

Daily Outfit: Birds of a Feather

some of my favorite MF designs are our feather earrings.  they really speak to the tribal and native vibe that flows through our designs.  i guess i was feeling very bird-like from my earrings to my 'fro-hawk.  which reminds me of the time our friend, Aimee said that she likes to play the game "Fish or Bird?" because she feels like everyone either looks like a fish or a bird.  LOL, when i first heard her say that, i started cracking up; then immediately afterwards, i couldn't help myself from thinking it whenever i saw someone... fish or bird? i mention all of this to say that, when it comes to myself, i guess i would be a bird.  although both birds and fish are colorful and can be beautiful, i see myself as more a creature of air than of water.  my fascination with feathers also helps me lean towards this choice.  then, add my long limbs and big hair... totally bird-like lol.  so my next question is... which one are you?

Ask The PFMs: Happy Holidays, Old-Man Style

Welcome to our first installment of Ask the PFMs...yay! Let's bring everyone up to speed. Jeanmarie tells us that she would like to find an "old man" sweater to give her fiancĂ© for Christmas. And she wants to know where the heck to find one. We are here to help! But first things first- we told the lovely Jean to immediately stop googling "old man sweater"...you are likely to find some creepy results, none of which will be what you are looking for.

After finding out more specific details, Sesheta and I were on the hunt. Jeanmarie wants to find a cardigan style, solid color, preferably on the thick cozy side. Pockets would be a plus, and it must be new; not thrifted or vintage. Christmas themed sweaters are not an option! Being that we are in holiday mode right now, the Internet is the first place to look. There are some amazing deals going on online, so let's take advantage. Plus this is a gift; you don't have to try it on yourself, so just let your fingers do the walking. I narrowed it down to 3 different sites; UO for their vintage hipster vibe, J.Crew for their classic selection, and Revolve for their eclectic mix of designer labels.

Here's a round-up of our hand-picked faves...they range from the traditional oatmeal cable cardigan to the ever popular elbow-patch cardigan. But they all say "Grandpa" in the best possible way.
Also, a few PFM Tips:
30% off at J.Crew- code is GIFTS
20% off at Urban Outfitters- code is TAKEITOFF
15% off at Revolve Clothing- code is TULIP

Do you need styling suggestions, trend tips, or help picking out that holiday gift? We would love to give you some answers so let's hear it!!!

PFMs Music Corner: Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway

you can purchase this album at Amazon.com or download on iTunes

i have always had a love affair with music.  i really believe it flows through my veins just as much as blood does lol.  if you have ever been moved by music, i'm sure that you know just what i mean.  every so often, an album takes hold of me and i can't get a song (or songs) out of my head.

over Thanksgiving, i rediscovered this timeless classic.  if you have never experienced the beauty that is Donny Hathaway's voice matched with the clear crispness of Roberta Flack's vocals, you have truly missed out.  i've had this album on repeat for the past two days and while i've enjoyed the music, it saddened me. though Donny Hathaway had such a gift, he left the world too soon.  the same with so many other artists...so tragic.  listening to this music, you can almost get that he may have understood something that many others didn't and that's what fueled his voice and his writing.  either way, i wanted to share what has been my soundtrack and give love to another lost musical genius.

Daily Outfit: A La Lucy

There is a whole wonderful world of fashion inspiration out there on the streets, but sometimes all it takes is a little peek to one of your favorite style bloggers and BAM- you can't wait to hit your closet and create your own version!

Meet Lucy from Lucy Laucht. She is a super stylish Brit living in Brooklyn, and I love how she mixes prints, patterns, and bright pops of color. When I saw this outfit I immediately thought of my own citron colored cowl-neck sweater, and how lonely it's been. Since it hasn't come out to play in a long time I was actually considering getting rid of it... until Lucy convinced me otherwise! This swingy little polka-dotted number was the perfect counterpart for a pop of citron with taupe accents. Finished it all off with my Leather Aries Jacket (not to be confused with the lucious Helmut Lang Chasm Shearling Jacket that I couldn't quite afford.) And that's ok, because I just love my Rachel Roy.

Pure Cupcake paired with Pinot Noir!
I was comfortable enough for a day of work, yet decked out for a night of fun in the city that included a stop at NYC's Sweet Revenge. Yummm incredibly delicious cupcakes and wine...who knew they were such perfect counterparts too??!!
