Fresh Out of the Workshop: The Divine Turban Headband

This latest design came to be out of the desire for a stylish, vintage-inspired accessory that would keep ears warm and hairstyles in tact. Since I tried to shop vintage and couldn't find exactly what I wanted, it was time to create a la MavenFresh. Ta-da, introducing the Divine Turban Headband! It's cut wide and made of a lusciously soft fuzzy blend of mohair, alpaca, cashmere, and wool. So it's totally indulgent, and you deserve it. Turbans are taking on many different forms these days, but can they get you through cold-weather months in high-fashion style like this one can?!! Keep in mind this is not just a piece for outdoor wear; put on a blouse and some shiny jewelry and you're perfection at the office. If you're going to be prancing outside in the chilly air, pair it with a cocoon coat...this turban is divine!

I'm such a hat girl and this just adds to my growing number of toppers. And now you can get a head start on building up your own collection. This will be available in more colors, just click here and visit our etsy shop. You know you want to.

Daily Outfit: Wild Circumstance

on any other day, i would have been totally stoked to have created such a fab outfit.  (i absolutely loooooooove wearing my head wrapped turban style with this leopard print scarf.) unfortunately, today is not an ordinary day and neither was the day that i took these pics.

i found out earlier that morning that my uncle had passed.  though i'm smiling in these pics, my heart is deeply saddened by my loss.  while it is never fun to lose anyone, it seems especially hard when it is unexpected.  my uncle was a beautiful spirit; he always greeted me with a smile and had jokes to share.  the thing is, this is how he is remembered by anyone who knew him.  he is going to be thoroughly missed by many.  i'll be attending his funeral today and, while it will be hard to say our final goodbyes, i'm looking forward to paying tribute to how he lived.

RIP Uncle Basil

Daily Outifit: Disco Plum

did you ever wonder what it was like to be part of the disco era?  i have!! from the music to the fashion, i've always been drawn to it.  the pics i've seen from this time in fashion always makes me wish i grew up then.  everyone dressed to the nines!!  it was a time when glamour wasn't reserved for special occasions -- it was a way of life!  i especially loved the accessories from that time period - fabulous earrings, scarves galore, statement hats and killer footwear.  despite the fact that i am a baby of the late '70s, i still feel like that fashion courses through my veins.

my outfit today is totally '70s disco inspired.  my vintage purple leather goes perfectly with my flare jeans.  (i guess fashion was also feeling nostalgic because both flare jeans and scarves made a resurgence on runways recently.)   my super glam accessories brought the look together and kept it modern vintage.  i feel like these pics could have been taken back in 1977!

Daily Outfit: Fit for a Queen

my mani is Sally Hansen, of course! Girl Flower - though i was hesitant at first , now i love this pattern!

it was love at first sight with these edgy studded flats!

with so many people bringing back the "turban", i decided to dedicate my look to the original head wrap wearers. ( you know who you are!)  there was a time when i could be found rocking all types of head wraps- super sky high, two fabric patterns - you name it, i tried it.  the head wrap is another example of how fashion imitates life.   while i love that they have recently been seen on the runways, i like to give props to the trends that actually have a functional use as well.  although it has become fashionable, it has historically been worn as a means of protection or as a covering for a woman's (or a man's, in some cases) source of strength - her hair.  the head wrap can be found in many cultures.  for example, royalty in Africa wear head wraps or crowns to signify status and tribal identity.  though i like to think of myself as royal, today i rock my head wrap out of fashion inspiration as well as to cover my bad hair day lol.  it is a fun way to both get back to my roots and look fresh at the same time!
